A$AP Rocky is continuing his work with Ray-Ban, this time dropping an all-metal glasses collection. The new line is inspired by the 1998 crime drama “Belly.” As reported by HotNewHipHop, Rocky tapped Nas to star in the campaign film for the collection. Nas, who was in the original movie alongside DMX, narrates the ad. He shares a personal connection to the shoot’s location.
A$AP Rocky’s Creative Direction
Nas shared, “Man, I get a phone call from Flacko this evening. He wants to meet in Harlem. Funny thing is, it’s the same restaurant where I last met with his pops before he passed. His pops was my dawg.” This moment highlights the personal connection A$AP Rocky has fostered with the eyewear brand. He was named Ray-Ban’s first-ever Creative Director last February. This new A$AP Rocky Metal Collection features four distinct styles. Each style comes in multiple colorways for fans to choose from.
Collaboration with Nas
The campaign video itself takes cues from a scene in the movie “Belly.” This visual tie-in adds a layer of nostalgia for fans of the film. After their conversation, Rocky shows Nas samples of the new frames. Both rappers are seen wearing two of the styles in the video. Nas tells Rocky that his father would have been proud of his achievement with Ray-Ban. This collaboration marks another significant move for A$AP Rocky’s career.
Music and Future Projects
In addition to his fashion ventures, A$AP Rocky is also seeing success with his music. His album, “Don’t Be Dumb.” recently hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Furthermore, a deluxe version of the album is expected soon. As reported by HotNewHipHop, this deluxe edition should drop before his tour begins on May 27. Production from Metro Boomin and Mike WiLL Made-It is expected on the new tracks. There’s also speculation about a possible Rihanna feature, though nothing is confirmed yet
